Two landlords have been fined over £216,000 after renting out homes in a dangerous condition. 

The penalties relate to properties in Norfolk following a crackdown by Breckland council officers on homes owned by repeat-offending landlords.

One landlord, who lets 11 properties in the area, was fined £64,800 for failing to carry out electrical safety checks.

The same landlord was previously fined £52,000 for ignoring improvement notices.

A second landlord was repeatedly overcrowding properties and letting them with dangerous electrics, fire risks, damp, and mould.

The second landlord has been fined over £100,000 over the past year for failing to comply with improvement notices.

A council spokesperson says: “We take our statutory duty very seriously to make sure that rented housing in Breckland is safe to live in.”

Council inspections have uncovered unsafe electrics, damp and mould, overcrowding, and illegal evictions.
