Landlords and owners of empty homes iare being invited to a free event next week to find out more about help and incentives on offer to help local families to find a home.
The drop-in event, which is open to anyone including those thinking about becoming a landlord, takes place from 8.30am until 1.30pm in Weston-super-Mare.
North Somerset council’s lettings team will be on hand to discuss the free lettings service they provide to landlords, including information on the incentives on offer to help home a family in the area.
The team can also help with health and safety assessments, advice on tenancy issues, and provide information about grants and loans available to help get a property ready to let.
Councillor Mike Bell, North Somerset council’s deputy leader and executive member for housing, says: “The cost of living crisis is having a real impact on hard-working families. This, combined with house prices at a record high, means many are simply being priced out of the market.
"Home ownership is out of reach for many, resulting in overwhelming demand for rental housing which far outstrips available accommodation.
“I’m proud that we’re taking action to help those in need to find good quality, safe and affordable homes for a fairer North Somerset.”
Also at the event will be the Department for work and Pensions to give information about Universal Credit, Citizens Advice, West Country Savings and Loans, the Centre for Sustainable Energy and North Somerset council’s housing standards team.

Memo to councils. You reap what you sow.
Keep bashing the PRS and more of this will come !!! We have choices ! Tenants often do not.
Don't fall for it, never deal with a council, totally un trust worthy and will stab you in the back at the first opportunity
Free letting agent services, so they can have free reign to put in tenants who would never pass even the most basic referencing. I will stick to paying my great letting agents to keep working in my interest and to keep finding me great tenants who look after my properties.
In the long run, there’s nothing more expensive than free.
The councils have a cheek offering incentives to landlords!! I have a lovely tenant of 6 years and unfortunately the landlord need his property back due to loosing his current home! They have advised her to stay put until he evicts her through the courts. That is so unfair as they have a great relationship. So wrong.
Don't do it. You cannot visit your property and you have no control whom moves in. I looked into this, showed a staff member my property, she said that it was acceptable and was happy to proceed. I replied, I need to make good all the problem areas, replied not it was fine. Ok, i'll make the repairs when the tenant moves in. No , will not be your responsibility, as will be Council ran. What about 3 monthly inspections, certainly to begin with. No, not going to happen was the reply.
I did not proceed!
