Council shines spotlight on empty private homes - but not its own…

A council is reminding residents they have only a week left to comment on empty private homes.

Caerphilly council’s draft ‘Private Sector Empty Homes Strategy 2023 – 2028’ sets out the authority’s plans to tackle the high numbers of empty homes in the county borough.

It also sets out the range of initiatives available to the council to help owners bring their empty homes back into use.

But a statement from the council says: “This strategy only refers to private sector empty homes and does not extend to empty homes within the council’s own housing stock or those owned by other Community Landlords.”

Residents can give their views on the draft strategy by completing an online survey at Caerphilly - Caerphilly County Borough, or by contacting the Private Sector Housing team to request a copy by calling 01443 811378.

The consultation closes on January 18.

Well I take in a Tenant and he immediately have more right to to Property than me ? can stay as long as he likes it’s not happening and I won’t be doing it.
I have to justify myself to the Tenant why I want my property back. We had always had Contracts and everyone knew where they stood.
This is a proposal to have an open ended right of Residency in perpetuity.
It’s already causing my Tenants loads of trouble where they want to have some Tenant change but I can’t agree or issue a new Tenancy.
They know if they have all got to move they’ll be paying 30% more, the Tenants are nice young people so I don’t know why the Government is doing this to them.
