Tenants are to be given a week-long teach-in to maximise the new powers they have over landlords from the Renters Rights Act.
The Generation Rent activist group is staging what it calls Renters’ Rights Awareness Week, a series of teach-ins, free to tenants.
It begins on Monday April 27 with an afternoon session on what tenants can get from local councils, then an evening court on how tenancies and evictions are changing.
The next day there’s a session on how rent rise powers are being limited under the Act.
On Wednesday April 29 there’s a class on what the Act means for voluntary and charitable organisations, plus a general introduction to the Act.
Thursday sees a teach-in on new pet rules under the Act.
And the week closes on Friday with sessions dedicated to student accommodation changes and what the Act means for what the activists call “unsafe homes.”
On Instagram, the chief executive of Generation Rent, Ben Twomey – who is quitting his job shortly – says: “It’s a full week packed with webinars. We’re speaking to experts together with campaigners.
“This year it’s particularly special because there’s [sic] so many new rights coming your way.”
