Council praises private landlord for illegal fly-tipping solution

We’re used to councils having a pop at private landlords - but now one has praised a landlord for helping to prevent illegal fly-tipping

A fly-tipping hotspot in King’s Lynn has been cleaned up and measures put in place to prevent re-offending, thanks to a landlord.

The area has been cleared and gates have been installed by the landowner, meaning that an alcove where the bins were kept is no longer accessible to anyone except tenants of the adjoining properties.

Councillor Paul Kunes, the council’s cabinet member for the environment, says: “Through a great piece of work by council officers, working with the property owner, we have managed to sort out the immediate problem and put in a long-term solution that will make the street more pleasant for everyone who walks or drives down it.

“It also shows that we won’t stand for fly-tipping and will deal with it where we find it. There is a tip less than three miles away and there is no excuse for dumping rubbish on the street like this.”

Problems had been building up around a bin store which was for the use of tenants living in adjoining properties. Unfortunately, they were not the only people using the bins and the area also started to attract fly-tipping of bulky items – which the council does not remove from private land.

The council says the landlord responded positively to its approach, removing the fly-tipping and installing gates across the front of the area. This has resolved the short-term issue of the fly-tipping itself and provided a long-term solution to prevent problems from re-occurring.

Wouldn't it be nice if the council reimbursed the landlord in some way as a 'thank you'?

It seems landlords are so cynical, they only like bad news as it's clear 99% of them to date, never comment on anything good and when they do, it's only to complain. No wonder even the government is tired of you people.

Jason. Thanks for that sorry for being cynical about all the bad news which is 99% of the time.
Jason. When you have some have good news for landlords please let me know this cynicism is killing me.

I find it so comforting in a country that so much changes so fast we can always rely on caring compassionate and open minded people like Jason to always be true to their nature and to share with us their real potential for resurrecting the finest ideas from history
Perhaps these people need a unifying identity perhaps some snazzy knee boots maybe a smart black outfit and some historical insignia !
My heartfelt congratulations to the little Jasons of this country , they have made me realise that as a family we are wasting our potential by providing homes for families in the UK so we have regrettably
decided to let our tenants go ,and house families in other countries
Some of our tenants have been in their homes for over twenty years so I am sure would like to thank the tiny Jasons and their little pals for giving them the opportunity to find themselves a new home unfortunately that will be at current rents not what they were paying
I only wish we could be there to witness the gratitude and love being physically demonstrated towards those wholly responsible for them being introduced to the joy of being homeless
I am sure that a charity will be able to give them some shelter as there will be no private accommodation and as we all know most council properties are not fit for human habitation
